Qup Pulse

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27/09/2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Qup DA ("we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you use the Qup Pulse app. Qup DA is the data controller. We are registered in Oslo, Norway (org. nr. 998185599).

Qup Pulse is intended only for users aged 18 and over.

Information we collect

  • Account information: your email address and PIN.
  • Profile information: your username, display name, and profile photo.
  • Content you create: posts, comments, messages, and images you share.
  • Approximate location. How we use it, and what you control, is described under Location below.
  • Call records: who called whom, when, how long the call lasted and whether it connected. We never record the audio or video of a call — see Video calls below.

How we use your information

  • To provide and operate the app, including your feed, messages, and profile.
  • To show you relevant nearby content.
  • To show you to other members, but only with your agreement and only from a position you chose to share by checking in. See Location below.
  • To keep the service safe, including handling reports and moderation.
  • To send you service-related emails, such as verification and password reset.

Location

We use your approximate location for two separate things, and you control them separately.

To show you nearby posts and people. This uses your position on your device, and needs the location permission your phone asks for. You can refuse it, or withdraw it later in your device settings; the app still works, and your feed is simply not ranked by distance.

To show you to other members. This needs something more than the phone permission: it needs your agreement inside the app, which we ask you for directly and which you can decline.

Agreeing does not by itself send your location anywhere. Your location is sent to us only when you check in or pick a place yourself — a deliberate action you take each time. Check-ins cannot be made automatic — there is no setting for it anywhere in the app — and we never read or send your position in the background, or while you are not using the app.

Your coordinates are rounded before they are stored, so we hold an approximate position rather than an exact one. We use the position from your last check-in to show your profile to members near it, ordered by distance. Other members are never shown your position, your distance, or where you checked in — not on a map, a pin, an address, or as a number of kilometres.

You can withdraw your agreement at any time in the app under Settings, “Show me to people nearby”. From then on the app does not send your location. The position from your last check-in stays stored, and your profile can still appear to members near it, until you check in somewhere else or delete your account; if you want it removed sooner, contact us. Declining or withdrawing does not stop you browsing, posting, messaging, or calling.

We say this plainly because the app works this way too: being able to see people near you and being seen by them are different things, and you are asked about them separately.

What other members can see

Your profile — your username, display name, photo, and what you post — is visible to other members of the app.

Other members are never shown your distance or location. If you have never checked in, you do not appear in other members’ nearby results.

You can block any member from their profile, which removes them from your results and prevents them contacting you. Members you have blocked are listed under Settings, Privacy and safety, where you can unblock them.

We share data with service providers, such as image hosting, only as needed to operate the service. We do not sell your personal data.

Your messages

Private messages are stored so they can be delivered and read. Three different things can happen to a message, and they are not the same:

  • Hide — you remove a message from your own view. The other person keeps their copy and is not told. The message is not changed or deleted.
  • Retract — you withdraw your own message and it disappears for both of you. This cannot be undone. The text is not erased from our servers: we keep it so that reports about it can still be handled.
  • Removal by us — a moderator takes a message down. Neither participant sees it afterwards. This can be reversed by us.

We say this plainly because the app says it too: retracting a message hides it from everyone in the app, but does not erase it from our servers.

Video calls

You can start a video call with another member in a one-to-one conversation. Your camera and microphone are used only during a call you have started or answered, and only after you allow access in your browser or on your phone.

Audio and video travel directly between the two devices, or through a relay server when a direct connection is not possible, and are encrypted in transit. We never record or store what is said or shown in a call.

We keep a record of each call — who called whom, when, how long it lasted, and whether it connected — so that your call history works and reports can be handled. Call records are kept while your account is active.

You can report the other person during a call. The report goes to our moderation team with a reference to that call; moderators see the call record and your report, never a recording, because none exists. Members you have blocked cannot call you.

Moderation and staff access

To keep the service safe we operate a moderation team. Staff accounts have one of two roles: moderators, who can act on content, and administrators, who can additionally manage accounts. Both can read private messages in the situations listed below.

  • When someone files a report, moderators can read the reported message and the conversation around it. A single line is rarely enough to judge a complaint fairly.
  • A report stores a copy of the message text as it was when the report was made. That copy is kept even if the message is later retracted or removed.
  • Moderators can see messages that participants have hidden, that senders have retracted, or that our team has removed. Reading these is not limited to messages someone has reported.
  • Administrators can additionally see account details, including email addresses, and can suspend accounts.

Staff access to private messages is a real intrusion and we treat it as one. These tools exist so that complaints can be answered and abuse can be acted on — not for browsing.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing. You can delete your account and associated data at any time from within the app — see our account deletion page for steps.

Data retention

We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data, except where we are required to retain certain information to comply with legal obligations.

Messages you hide or retract, and messages our moderators remove, are kept in our database rather than erased, so that reports and appeals about them remain answerable. Reports are kept after they are resolved so that repeated behaviour can be recognised.

If you delete your account, ask us and we will remove your messages along with it, except where we are required to keep something to deal with an open report or a legal obligation.
